Road Safety
 
All occupants of a vehicle in Australia must were a seat belt at all times.
 
Drive the car on the left-hand side of the road and obey all road signs.
 
When driving long distances, remember you are driving in unfamiliar conditions. Observe the speed limits and take regular breaks to avoid fatigue.
 
Blood alcohol must be below 0.05 for drivers holding an open license. P platers or first year drivers are not allowed to have any alcohol in their system when driving.
 
Fire Safety
 
All backpacker hostels should display an emergency evacuation plan. Make sure you find it is, so you know how to get out in an emergency.
 
All rooms in South Australia should be fitted with sprinklers.
 
Never remove batteries from smoke alarms.
 
All power outlets in Australia are 25-volt, so use an adapter for anything with a different voltage
 
As most fires start in the kitchen, find out where the fire blankets and extinguishers are, and what you an use them for. Managers can provide advice.
 
.Water Safety
 
At the beach, only swim between the red and yellow flags, this indicates the safest area to swim and is patrolled by trained surf lifesavers.
 
Always swim under supervision or with a friend.
 
Read and obey signs.If you are unsure of surf conditions, ask a lifesaver or lifeguard.
 
Never run and dive into the water. Even if you have checked before, conditions can change.
